Hunting wild boars in the fields is one of the most exciting ways to hunt this game. It usually involves waiting on a high perch or moving quietly to a spot that wild boars frequently visit for food.
Wild boars leave their shelters in the forests and search for food. The herd moves in a group and follows their paths as they search. If it's safe in the pasture, they can be quite noisy. Wild boars can travel several kilometers in search of food.
Year-round
Wild boars prefer floodplain and extensive forests adjacent to farmlands. They are most often found in mixed or deciduous forests with oak and beech trees. They seek out places with mud holes for wallowing and trees for scratching. For resting, they prefer dense thickets, and during the summer, they are often found in extensive fields of grain and corn.
They have a diverse diet, ranging from animal to plant matter. They particularly enjoy the fruits of forest trees like acorns, beech mast, and chestnuts. Additionally, they consume grains, roots of various herbs and ferns, but they won't turn down insects, amphibians, reptiles, ground-nesting bird chicks, small rodents, fawns, and carrion.
